Audi and its local Chinese partners (FAW and SAIC) are presenting several interesting novelties at this year’s Guangzhou Motor Show in southern China, among them the new Audi A5L in extended form.
FAW Audi is exhibiting two new cars on its stand, both of which represent the latest Audi platform technologies. Just before its market launch, the Audi Q6L e-tron was presented as the first locally produced vehicle based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE). From the end of December, it will be produced exclusively for the Chinese market by Audi FAW NEV, a company founded by Audi and FAW. To this end, the joint venture has built a new production site in Changchun for the production of all-electric Audi models.
The Audi Q6L e-tron differs from the international model produced in Ingolstadt not only by its traditionally longer wheelbase, but also by numerous design features and market-specific innovations aimed at the Chinese market. Also, the interior of the Audi Q6L e-tron is more comprehensively tailored to the needs of Chinese customers than ever before.
The Audi Q6L e-tron is defined by impressive driving and charging performance, as well as excellent efficiency. The wheelbase, longer by 105 millimeters, also enables the installation of a larger battery. With it, the CLTC range will be more than 700 kilometers. The letter “L” in the name stands for the long wheelbase, which also becomes a hallmark of outstanding long-distance capability.
Powerful, compact and highly efficient electric motors and a newly developed lithium-ion battery consisting of 12 modules and 192 prismatic cells with a total gross capacity of 107 kWh ensure a range of more than 700 kilometers according to CLTC.
Thanks to 800-volt technology and a maximum charging capacity of 270 kW as standard, up to 260 kilometers of range can be charged in just ten minutes at a suitable charging station (High Power Charging, HPC). The state of charge (SoC) will increase from 10 to 80 percent within 25 minutes.
The Q6L e-tron will be offered as a rear-wheel drive version with a system output of 255 kW/347 hp and a quattro all-wheel drive with 345 kW/469 hp. The rear-wheel drive version offers significant efficiency and range, while the quattro version provides excellent traction and driving dynamics.
The FAW stand also featured the successor to the long-standing Chinese bestseller Audi A4L with a new model designation: the Audi A5L follows Audi’s new international naming system, which distinguishes the model numbers of electric vehicles from classic models.
As an internal combustion vehicle, the A5L is based on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) and is 4902 mm long with a wheelbase of 2965 mm.
The extended wheelbase of the A5L creates a significantly improved feeling of spaciousness while maintaining recognizable dynamic proportions. Individual designs on the front and back – such as luminous rings – ensure an unmistakable look.
As with the Q6L e-tron, the interior of the A5L has impressive options specific to the Chinese market, such as illuminated mirrors and high-tech solutions.
