Audi factory workers stole the keys of 200 cars

Workers at the Audi factory in Brussels stole around 200 car keys, demanding an explanation from the management about the future of the plant.

“No vehicle will leave the factory until we get answers,” said one of the workers, as reported by the German news agency dpa. The factory employs 3,000 people.

The workers stole the keys on Sunday, and the factory management, as they wrote, rejects this type of extortion.

If the employees do not return the keys, they will file criminal charges, and they intend to identify those responsible for the theft with the help of surveillance cameras, the Belgian agency Belga announced.

Audi announced in July that due to weak demand for its electric model Q8 e-tron, which is produced at the Belgian plant, it cannot rule out its closure.

The fears of around 3,000 employees were reinforced by a message from Audi’s parent company Volkswagen that no other models will be produced at the factory in Brussels for the next few years.

Employees have responded with several strikes in recent days, and the largest union is planning to strike on September 16.
