Audi’s key crisis is over

The keys to 300 cars confiscated from the Audi Brussels factory were returned.

At the Audi Brussels factory, the keys to around 300 completed cars seized by employees were handed over to management.

According to the news in the Belgian press, the uncertainty that arose after Audi’s owner Volkswagen Group did not allocate any new models for production at the Brussels factory continues.

The management of the Brussels factory and members of the union representing employees at the facility will meet today to address the issues.

At the meeting, what can be done to restart the factory will be discussed.

The keys to 300 cars ready for delivery, which were seized by employees before the meeting, were returned to the factory management by the union.

The management also decided not to initiate legal proceedings regarding the confiscated keys.

The Audi brand, which belongs to the German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen Group, announced in July that it would restructure its Brussels factory, where the luxury segment electric car model Q8 is produced and where approximately 3,000 people work, due to falling demand, and that the production of these models would continue in Mexico.

Audi management announced last week that no models had been allocated for production at the Brussels plant by the Volkswagen Group.

This situation disturbed the factory workers and the unions. The workers did not return to work and confiscated the keys of the cars that had been completed.

The factory management had announced that the factory would remain closed and that workers would not be paid during this period unless they continued production normally and returned the confiscated car keys.

On the other hand, Audi Brussels employees will protest in Brussels on September 16 to draw attention to the problems they are experiencing.
