Audi’s new range of electric cars developed in China for the Chinese market will not carry its four-ring logo. This invokes the Reuters adding that this decision of the German company is due to the “examination of the image of the brand”, while it also reflects the use of the car architecture developed jointly with the Chinese partner SAIC and the increased dependence on local suppliers and technologies.
A concept car of the new range of cars is due to be unveiled in November, with the company launching 9 new models in China by 2030 that will “be true Audi with authentic Audi DNA”. The first electric car based on the new platform will be launched in 2025.
Last May, Audi and SAIC said they would jointly develop a platform on which to base a series of new electric models for the Chinese market.
The new range will use batteries from CATL and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) from Chinese technology company Momenta.
Audi electric cars currently sold in China will continue to sport the four-circle logo. These are the Q4 e-tron built in partnership with FAW, the Q5 e-tron built jointly with SAIC and the Q6 e-tron built with FAW to be launched later this year.
