August weekends at BDP: Young artists “take over” the theater

For the second year in a row, the Belgrade Drama Theatre, BDP, is giving the month of August to young theater artists. On the Summer Stage of the BDP “Millennium team” Arena, the “New Voices” project continues with the performance of three plays from last summer, as well as two premieres.

“In se, on se and pode se”

First it will 3. i 4. Goran Starčević’s play “U se, na se i poda se” will be performed, directed by Stefan Gajić. This contemporary black comedy is related to the issues of war veterans and those who take advantage of benefits, as well as moral dilemmas. Cast: Marko Pavlović, Vukašin Jovanović, Mina Obradović, Ognjen Malušić, Andrijana Đorđević, Ognjen Nikola Radulović, Dragan Petrović, Petar Petrović, Ksenija Repić, Radosav Janjić.

“Quiet, quieter”

The following weekend is reserved for “Tiho, tiše” by Milica Radojčić, directed by Ana Janković. The story is current and touches on painful topics – it calls for a re-examination of myths about rape, patriarchy and the general position of women in a society where sex and rape are used as synonyms. Actors: Aleksandra Arizanović, Andrijana Andi Đorđević, Anja Ćurčić, Veljko Stevanović, Čubrilo Čupić, Nikola Đorđević.

“Window”

Then, on August 17 and 18, Katarina Nikolić’s drama “Window”, which won the 2021 Hartefakt fund award for the best socially engaged text, directed by Nikola Bundal, will be performed. The topic is the current problem of violence in schools through various forms – from sexual, family to LGBT discrimination. „Rake“

The second half of the month is dedicated to new projects – first, on August 24, the drama “Rake” by the young author Sofija Dimitrijević, directed by Dajana Josipović, will premiere. It is a story about a generation that grows up in an environment firmly based on irrefutable rules of thought and behavior, and in which an individual, if he offers any form of resistance as a sign of struggle for some small, but living, personal ideals, is doomed to humiliation.

The author’s team consists of playwright Arsenije Štimac, scenographer Itana Šestović, costume designer Smiljka Babić and composer Luka Lukić. Cast: Jovan Simeunović, Andrija Marković, Petar Lazarević, Arsenije Arsić, Pavle Ivanović, Anja Jovanović, Mila Protić, Aleksandra Urošević, Una Rakić and Mila Lalović. The preview is on the 23rd, and the first rerun is on the 25th of August. On the last weekend of next month, the play “Birdcage” by Nikola Stanišić, directed by Slobodan Stanković, will premiere. The playwright is Vanja Šević, the set designer is Sonja Brdar, the costume designer is Tatjana Tatalović, and the composer is Arsenije Arsić. Cast: Bratislav Zdravković, Rista Milutinović, Nikola Mijatović, Budimir Stošić, Stevan Smiljanić, Vukašin Jovanović and Mihailo Laptošević.
