Austin came to Kyiv, which was facing a Russian attack, as a sign of support for Ukraine

Kyiv – US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin arrived in Kyiv today for an unannounced visit. He wants to express his support for Ukraine shortly before the presidential elections in the United States, Reuters writes. Kiev and other places in Ukraine became the target of Russian attacks again last night.

This is Austin’s fourth visit to Ukraine and, according to Reuters, he is likely to discuss in detail with Ukrainian officials how the United States is helping Kiev strengthen its defenses at a time when the Ukrainian military is unable to stop Russian advances in the country’s east. With the US election, there is uncertainty about further military support from Washington.

On the night of today, the Russian army attacked Kiev with up to ten drones, reports Ukrainska Pravda. The anti-aircraft defense neutralized all of them, but the fragments of the downed drone hit the roof of the one-story house and a fire started on the spot. One man suffered minor injuries.

On Sunday evening, the Russian army dropped several bombs on Kharkiv. Police said 12 people were injured, and authorities in Ukraine’s second-largest city said ten houses were damaged and two were completely destroyed, according to the Russian-language BBC service.

Four people were injured in a Russian rocket attack on Kryvyi Rih in the Dnipropetrovsk region. A 12-year-old girl is among the injured. Serhiy Lysak, the head of this region in the southeastern part of Ukraine, said that the damage was to various objects in the city, including a hotel, five multi-storey buildings and a bank. Several cars are also damaged.

Ukraine has been resisting the Russian invasion since February of last year. Civilian loss of life and material damage after Russian attacks are reported practically every day.
