Australia’s most decorated Olympian and multiple world record holder Emma McKeon ended her swimming career on Monday.

The 30-year-old swimmer won 14 Olympic medals during her time, including six gold medals at the Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.
“Today I officially end competitive swimming. I knew before Paris that these would be my last Olympics and the following months gave me time to reflect on my journey and think about what I wanted my future in swimming to look like,” she said on the social network. a swimmer who specialized in freestyle and butterfly.
McKeon particularly shone in Tokyo, where she won seven precious metals, three individually and four in relays. At the Olympics, which was postponed by a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, she collected four gold and three bronze medals.
She thus equaled the record of the most decorated female athlete at one Games, seven medals were won only by the Russian gymnast Maria Gorochovská in Helsinki 1952.
“I am proud of myself for giving my swimming career everything, physically and mentally. I wanted to see what I was capable of – and I succeeded,” she added.
