Firefighters and police officers will receive an additional 2,500 crowns, Minister of the Interior Vít Rakušan (STAN) announced today after a meeting with the unions of the security forces. In addition to the already promised 1,500 crowns, they will also receive another 1,000 crowns as a stabilization contribution in the tariff component. The salaries of firefighters and police officers who work in shifts should be raised a little more.
Union representatives added that the increase should also apply to other security forces. They consider the outcome of the meeting to be a step forward, they are partially satisfied.
Salaries are to rise by five percent in 2026 and 2027 as well, according to the Austrian, the employees will also receive a stabilization allowance for these years. “For most police officers (the increase) will be slightly higher, namely 2,650 crowns, because they serve in shift work,” the minister added. According to him, this is currently the maximum possible.
According to the Austrian, the ministry will get the funds for the increase by moving it from the expenditure item to social benefits. Therefore, it will not exceed the already approved draft budget. The Ministry of Finance has already approved the move. However, according to trade unionists, the employees would like it if the amount was not divided and the entire increase was reflected in the tariff component. Some also demanded the previously promised 10 percent salary increase.
According to the Austrian, the next meeting with trade unions will take place in January. He would like to discuss with them, for example, the starting salaries of police officers or the target levels of the number of police officers. According to the data of the Police Presidium, 40,418 police officers served in the Czech Republic at the beginning of October, and there were 46,162 positions.
According to Rakušan, a working group will also be created to deal with agendas that overburden the police. The minister stated that he will deal not only with redundant bureaucracy, but also with the abandonment of some agendas, which, however, will probably require legislative changes.
The trade unionists announced a protest due to low salaries on Thursday, November 21, in front of the Ministry of the Interior building on Letná, but the trade unionists will still discuss the protest. They could be clear in three days. Due to low pay and growing bureaucracy, some police officers protested last week. In cases where the law allowed them to do so, for example, they did not impose fines.
