“Austrotherm International” became richer in 2024 for three new factories in Europe

The previous calendar year (2024) was very prosperous for this European group based in Austria, in whose factories the production of thermal insulation boards from expanded polystyrene (EPS) and extruded polystyrene (XPS) takes place.

The number of production locations of this group has been increased by three new factories:

  • EPS factory in Michelhausen, Austria;
  • EPS factory in Croatian Zabok, near Zagreb;
  • EPS factory in Chalkida / Schimatari, Greece, near Athens.

Factories in Austria and Greece were taken over (bought) from previous competitors in the industry, whereby these legal entities, after exiting the industry of building thermal insulation products manufacturers, remained commercially active in other segments of their business.

On the other hand, the factory in Croatian Zabok represents the so-called “greenfield investment” of the group, because it is about to the construction of a completely new type factory for the production of striropor which in terms of its conceptual solution resembles several other factories of the “Austrotherm International” group that have existed throughout Europe before.

In this way, “Austrotherm International” in 2025, for now already in total 29 production locations in 13 European countrieshas 26 EPS factories (i.e. Styrofoam) and 5 factories for the production of XPS panels.

The reason for this disproportion (31 factories in 29 locations) is that at two production locations (the one in Nis, as well as the one in Horia, Romania) there are separate facilities for the production of EPS and for the production of the brand’s recognizable, pink XPS “Austrotherm”.

Serbian Austrotherm doo is an important part of the “Austrotherm International” group – not only because of its existence 4 factories in three locations in Serbia (Valjevo, Niš, Srbobran) or because there is a group in Serbia production of both EPS and XPS (which is still the case only in Austria, Romania and Turkey), not because there is a representative office in the capital of Serbia – an office for marketing and technical support, but also because of the fact that the Serbian company Austrotherm doo is directly responsible for the market of the neighboring Montenegro, and within the entire group, it is always the most active in direct support in the development and logistics of sister companies in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina – for completely understandable and logical reasons that have to do with the absence of language barriers and markets that are very similar to the one in Serbia, including the mentality of the people and business habits and customs of business partners, above all traders of building materials.
