If you have been to the garage since October 1, they are now obliged to offer you recycled parts for your repairs.
When you go to the garage for repairs, you rarely come out with a full wallet. However, auto professionals can offer you recycled parts for your vehicle. This helps to reduce the bill and quotes a little. Since October 1, this proposal is now even mandatory for two and three wheels, in addition to cars. The main argument remains the preservation of the environment.
An implementation for car repairs since 2015
Two and three wheels are no longer an exception to the rule. Also note that, for repairs to a car, your mechanic is required to offer you recycled used parts since 2015. According to the article L.224-67 of the consumer code: “Any professional who markets maintenance or repair services for motor vehicles or two- or three-wheeled vehicles allows consumers to opt for the use, for certain categories of spare parts, of parts from the economy circular in place of new parts.
A decree of the Council of State establishes the list of categories of parts concerned and specifies the definition of parts from the circular economy, within the meaning of this article. It also defines the conditions under which the professional is not required to offer these parts due to their unavailability or other legitimate reasons.
The terms of consumer information are set by decree.
In the event of a dispute, it is up to the professional to prove that he has fulfilled his obligations.”
If two and three motorized wheels are present in the text of the law, it is because it has since been updated.
In what cases is your mechanic exempt?
However, there are certain cases in which the professional is not obliged to offer you recycled parts. For example, if he considers that the second-hand spare parts he has at his disposal are dangerous for the driver. Or for road safety in general. Ditto if these parts are harmful to the environment or public health. Also, if they are not available within a reasonable time, your mechanic may not offer them to you. This would cause your vehicle to be immobilized too much. Finally, in the event of a recall campaign by a manufacturer, they must install new parts for you. This also concerns a planned replacement from a certain mileage.
Otherwise, here are the categories of parts from the circular economy that it must offer you:
Removable body parts;
Interior trim parts for motor vehicles and upholstery for motorized vehicles with two or three wheels;
Unglued glazing;
Optics;
Mechanical or electronic parts, with the exception of rolling trins, steering elements, braking elements and ground connection elements
Mechanical or electronic parts, with the exception of those forming part of two- or three-wheeled motorized vehicles:
Wheel axles;
Brake linings;
From the cradle frame or structural part of the chassis.
For two and three wheels, mirrors and fuel tanks are also added.
