A Thai hospital said Wednesday that an autopsy of six foreigners, three men and three women, who were found dead in a Bangkok hotel, revealed traces of cyanide.
According to police and a hospital, traces of the deadly, fast-acting chemical were found during autopsies of the bodies, as well as on glasses and a teapot in a room at the luxury Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel.
According to the Reuterssome interviews with relatives of the victims revealed that there was a dispute over a debt related to an investment.
The hospital said further tests would be carried out. “We can assume that the six died due to cyanide,” said Kornkiat Vongpaisarnsin of Chulalongkorn Hospital, adding that the results of further tests “would be available on Friday”.
Initially, Thai media reported that a shooting was the cause of the deaths, but this information was denied by the authorities. It appears that the victims were poisoned.
