AWS’s tool is used in Formula 1 broadcasts – more real-time data and analyzes to come

AWS’s StatBot artificial intelligence tool is said to enable fast and accurate access to historical Formula 1 data and real-time analysis. The new artificial intelligence solution is already in use in F1 races this season, and it can be seen in TV broadcasts, for example through F1 Insights graphics.

Behind the physical excitement seen on the Formula 1 circuit is a huge amount of data that provides detailed information about every driver, car and race. In cooperation with Formula 1, AWS (Amazon Web Services) has developed an artificial intelligence solution called StatBot. It uses over 70 years of race data to provide real-time analysis and insights to viewers.

The StatBot tool allows commentators to quickly access relevant information. This also opens up the possibility for viewers to dive deeper into the secrets of the sport. The advantage of the tool is its speed, as the data is available within just a few seconds.

With thousands of races in Formula 1’s 70-year history, creating graphics and statistics for TV broadcasts is time-consuming. StatBot simplifies the process by using generative artificial intelligence to retrieve statistics from every race since 1950. This way, the production team can quickly find and share interesting information in real time.

For example, StatBot can answer the following questions: ‘When was the last time a newcomer won a race?’ Previously, you had to do the browsing of the old results manually, but now you can get the answer in seconds: “Lewis Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix as a rookie in 2007”. This information can then be shown to viewers immediately.

StatBot not only facilitates the collection of historical data, but also provides real-time analysis of what is happening on the track. Soon, StatBot will be able to generate statistics on, among other things, position changes, crashes and overtakes during the race, allowing commentators to provide information to viewers even faster.

AWS and Formula 1’s collaboration aims to improve the viewing experience. The manufacturer says in its announcement that in the future, fans will even be able to customize their own viewing experience and choose which statistics and information they want to see.
