Italy is within reach of victory in Group 2, A of the League of Nations, and France will play in the elite level next season as well.
“Azure” celebrated on the road to Belgium (1:0), while France played without goals in the home game against Israel.
The “Azuri” continued with great games under the expert baton of Lućan Spaleti and did what they failed to do on their own field – they defeated the “red devils” in Brussels, after the first match in which Belgium came back from a two-goal deficit to draw with Pellegrini sent off – 2:2.
Italy will meet France in the last round and the “tricolors” will need a triumph of at least three goals to win the group.
England took first place in the B League of Nations, winning in Greece – 3:0.
Ivan Jovanović’s team failed to surprise Gordi Albion again, who took the lead with a goal by Oli Watkins in the 7th minute, only for the game to be settled by an own goal by goalkeeper Vlahodimos in the 78th minute.
The final result was set by Kurtis Jones in the 83rd minute. Greece won the first match at Wembley 2:1.
Both selections now have the same number of points, but England at home against the Republic of Ireland would win a direct return to the A rank of the League of Nations.
The Republic of Ireland was again better than Finland – 1:0, and the only goal was scored by Ferguson in the 45th minute.
In the B League of Nations, Slovenia lost to Norway – 4:1, so Austria’s team will chase victory for second place in the group. Austria and Norway have 10 points each, but Austria has a better mutual score.
And North Macedonia, which won the C League of Nations, will play in the B League of Nations in the next edition. Serafimov’s goal in the 57th minute brought victory to North Macedonia at the “Toše Proeski” stadium against Latvia – 1:0.
