Babul, the accused in Fatikchari murder case, arrested after 21 years

After 21 years, RAB-7 has arrested Babul, the fugitive accused in the case of the murder of Ahmad Tota, the notorious expatriate drug addict of Chittagong’s Fatikchari police station.

On Monday (October 21) on the basis of secret information, RAB-7 arrested Babul, the fugitive accused under the death warrant of the case, from the Chawkbazar area of Chittagong city.

Babul (42) is the son of deceased Mojahar Mia Prakash Ezahar Mia of Shahnagar village of upazila.

According to RAB-7 sources, the deceased victim Neshar Ahmed Tota returned to the country from Dubai in 2003. Ezahar Mia, a resident of the same area, borrowed five thousand taka from him a long time ago. After Neshar Ahmed Tota came back to the country, Ezahar Mia repeatedly pressured Ezahar Mia to return the money due to him, but Ezahar Mia refused to pay him the money.

Enmity was brewing from the east between Neshar Ahmed Tota and Lada Nashir, known as a terrorist in the area. At one point, Neshar Ahmed assured Tota that he would recover the money from the terrorist Nashir Ezahar Mia and created an opportunity to take revenge against the victim.

Later, on November 1, 2003, Lada Nashir and his accomplices called the victim from his house to recover the money. As the victim did not return home, his wife searched all possible places and the next day on November 2, 2003, found an unidentified dead body lying on the road at the foot of a hill in South Rangamatia area.

Later, the victim’s wife came to the said place and identified the unidentified body with slit throat as that of her husband.

Morsheda Akhtar, the wife of the deceased, filed a case against 10 people at Fatikchari police station as the plaintiff. After a long investigation, Fatikchari police filed a charge sheet against the accused in the court on 14th May 2004.

After receiving the police report and the testimony of the witnesses of the case, the court on March 8, 2021 awarded a fine of 20,000 taka to the 9 accused in the case.

Senior Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-7 Md. Sharif Ul Alam said – After the arrest, accused Babul has been handed over to Fatikchari police station for further legal action.

In the interrogation he confessed to being an absconding accused in the said case. In the interrogation of the arrested accused, it is also known that he and his other accomplices killed Ahmed Tota, who had returned from exile due to previous enmity, and since the filing of the case, he had left his area and was hiding in different places of Chittagong to avoid arrest from the law enforcement agencies.
