Baek Yoon-sik’s former girlfriend, accused of ‘false accusation’, sentenced to suspended prison term in first trial

A, the former lover of actor Baek Yoon-sik, who was indicted on charges of falsely accusing him, was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence in the first trial.

On the 22nd, Judge Baek Woo-hyun of the 6th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Mr. A, who was indicted on charges of false accusation, to one year in prison and two years of probation. He also ordered 120 hours of community service.

Judge Baek said, “Considering all the circumstances, it is reasonable to assume that Mr. A had a clear intent to make a false accusation when he sued Mr. Baek.” He ruled, “Mr. A made a false accusation by claiming that Mr. Baek forged the agreement in order to avoid civil debt, and the nature of the crime is very serious.”

He also said, “Mr. Baek, who was at risk of criminal punishment due to Mr. A’s crime, is likely to have suffered significant mental distress until the truth of his false accusation was revealed.”

Previously, Mr. A was taken to trial on charges of falsely accusing Mr. Baek of forging an agreement and submitting it as trial evidence in relation to a civil lawsuit that arose after he published a book containing his personal history with Mr. Baek in 2022. Mr. A sued Mr. Baek, claiming that he forged an agreement that contained a “prohibition on disclosure of private life,” but the prosecution determined that Mr. A had personally drafted an agreement that stated “no disclosure of any disputes with Mr. Baek to the outside and would pay compensation in case of violation.”

Mr. A, a former broadcaster reporter, published an essay detailing his encounter with Mr. Baek and their breakup in 2022.

Meanwhile, Mr. Baek filed a lawsuit against the publisher for publishing and sales ban, claiming that Mr. A violated the agreement, and Mr. Baek partially won in both the first and second trials. The case is currently in the appeals process.
