Bank clients will be able to report fraudulent charges to the police via apps

The project also proposes to give clients of systemically important banks the opportunity to file reports to the police through them about fraudulent withdrawals of funds.

Electronic document flow has already been launched between the Central Bank, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and credit institutions, thanks to which the function “send a report of a crime to the Ministry of Internal Affairs” will appear in bank applications, independent expert Yevgeny Karpov told Kommersant.

After receiving a statement from a client about a fraudulent transaction, the credit institution will be required to transfer to the police data on accounts, details of electronic wallets, telephone numbers and metadata.

The measure will save the client’s time and promptly provide the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the necessary information, Karpov points out. According to him, the local police are currently experiencing difficulties in investigating such cases and “try to return the papers to the citizen in any way possible.”

The draft regulation of the Central Bank also contains a mention of cryptographic keys, but the document does not specify where they should be stored or how they should be used, Daria Verestnikova, commercial director of software developer SafeTech, told Kommersant.

  • In the list of systemically important credit institutions enter VTB, Alfa-Bank, Sberbank, Raiffeisenbank and others, 13 in total.
