Basler expects clear victory against Leverkusen

Under Vincent Kompany, FC Bayern has once again become a voracious goal monster. Mario Basler does not want to overvalue the recent landslide victories, but pays respect to the Munich coach – and names his recipe for success.

6:1 in Kiel, 9:2 in the Champions League against Dinamo Zagreb, 5:0 at Werder Bremen – there is currently no sign of the struggling FC Bayern of last season. Instead, Vincent Kompany’s team is sweeping opponents off the pitch one after the other.

“You also have to score six goals in Kiel. You also have to score five goals in Bremen. FC Bayern is playing a completely different kind of football these days,” said recognized Bayern legend Mario Basler in his podcast “Basler ballert”.

Under Kompany, FC Bayern “no longer retreats” and no longer shows “the boring and slow football, the ball-holding that they have always played in recent years, so that every team can retreat nicely,” analyzed the 1996 European champion: “They don’t do that anymore. And that is the secret of success under Kompany at the moment.”

Instead of “15 times around the back”, Bayern will play “the football that we have actually wanted to see for years” in the 2024/25 season. The team is now trying to “attack up front, win the ball quickly and then strike with the offensive power that they have: with Kane, Olise, Musiala,” said Basler, explaining the playing style of the German record champions.

FC Bayern against Bayer Leverkusen “a great game”

Accordingly, Basler is looking forward to his former club’s top game on Saturday (6:30 p.m., live on sport.de-Ticker) against Bayer Leverkusen. “I said it, FC Bayern will strike back. That will probably be the case,” he predicted. “I think it will be a great game. I’m looking forward to it.”

The 55-year-old expects that the Bayern pros will be as hot as pork against the defending champions – but in moderation. “I don’t think any of the Bayern players will go to Oktoberfest anymore. Especially not voluntarily. And above all, they will still be thinking about the past season,” Basler prophesied.

“I somehow have the feeling that it will be a clear result. A lot of last season will come into play. Bayern were really humiliated by Leverkusen. On Saturday evening, many of the players will remember what happened last season.”
