Bastianini: 2023 the worst year in my career

Enea Bastianini had a nightmare season in the MotoGP championship in 2023, but luckily this year is different. The Italian went to the summer break from fourth place in the general standings behind Francesco Banya, Jorge Martin and Marco Marques.

Bastianini’s pace was at times equal to that of the three drivers in front of him, but poor performances in qualifying and struggles in earlier races cost him a better result.

What Bastianini has shown in 2024 is the ability to put a difficult period behind him, come back stronger and be competitive after a serious injury at the start of 2023.

Speaking about his mental strength, Bastianini stated: “You have to be determined, the mind always leads everything. That’s what Banjaja showed last year, the worst season in my career. Three breaks in five months.”

“When you have a few injuries, it’s not easy to get back on track. Nothing was working right, and as soon as a small victory came, a blow would follow.”

“It taught me to understand it philosophically: from the bottom you can only rise and you must never stop believing.”

“I have a routine with precise times during a race weekend: being ready by 11am for the start of Moto3, or thinking about what glove I wore during a good practice session.”

Bastianini, who won the Moto2 class title in 2020 ahead of Marko Beceki and Luka Marini, always had two dreams as a professional racer, both of which became reality.

“My first dream was to become world champion”Bastianini began. “I achieved that in Moto2, 2020. It was a difficult period due to the pandemic, but the title will always be in my mind.”

The second dream is a dream that many Italians have, and that is to race with Valentino Rossi.

“I would never have imagined being on the same starting grid as him, but it happened many times, and it was wonderful!”
