Bayer Leverkusen | FC Bayern: U-turn in the transfer poker for Tah?

The poker game for Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen is apparently gaining momentum again a few days before the transfer market closes. While a move to FC Bayern is still not 100 percent out of the question, another top European club is now said to be getting involved.

According to Spanish newspapers “Sport” and “Sky”, FC Barcelona is involved in the transfer poker for Tah.

“Sky” reports of “initial talks” with Tah’s agent Pini Zahavi. However, FC Barcelona is said to have not yet made contact with Bayer Leverkusen.

Tah is only contractually bound to the reigning German champions until 2025. An extension is currently not an option for the central defender. The 28-year-old has recently been intensively linked with FC Bayern.

A move to Säbener Straße is “currently unlikely, but not 100 percent off the table,” writes “Sky”.

Further transfers at FC Bayern not ruled out

The German record champions are currently without central defender Hiroki Ito (broken metatarsal) and right-back Josip Stanisic (torn lateral ligament of the knee). After the opening victory in the Bundesliga against VfL Wolfsburg (3:2), sports director Christoph Freund left a back door open for transfers.

Bayer CEO Fernando Carro told DAZN on Friday evening about the Tah issue: “At the moment we are assuming that he will stay at Bayer Leverkusen and that is all we are concerned about.” At the same time, the 60-year-old referred to the transfer window in the Bundesliga and many other top leagues that is open until August 30th.

Tah has been playing for Bayer Leverkusen since 2015, moving from Hamburger SV to the Rhineland. The German international played a major role in the Werkself’s double win as captain last season.
