In a move that is expected to cause reactions and discussions, a beach bar in Halkidiki decided to impose a dress code on its customers.

For Halkidiki, at least, the imposition of a specific dress code on the beach seems outrageous, but it is a reality, since in the personal message sent by the store’s management to those who wish to make a reservation, it is explicitly stated that non-compliance with the dress code may lead to the refusal entrance.

Specifically, the beach bar in question asks its customers, after 5 pm, to adopt “casual chic” clothing, but without clarifying it. This probably means that flip flops are prohibited and closed shoes or better sandals are required. Customers may be asked to wear linen shirts, trousers or a dress appropriate to the occasion. In fact, without sufficiently clarifying the attire, customers are informed that if their attire is not appropriate, they may not be allowed entry.

The characteristic message:

Something that is in complete contrast even to the well-known beach bars of Mykonos, where visitors enjoy their entertainment without any restrictions on clothing.

This news comes at a time when the demands and the prices on the beaches have changed radically. On the Athenian Riviera, according to with a report on protothema.gr, the price increases for sunbeds are impressive. Today, to take a refreshing dip in an organized beach of Attica, he will have to pay up to 220 euros for a set of sunbeds with an umbrella. And that, provided it has been booked in advance. It seems strange, but the usual terms of nightlife have been transferred to the beaches.

The “first table pista” has been “first row sunbed”, with sitting in front of the wave now a privilege. There are the “reserved” sunbeds, often with “minimum consumptions” and strict attendance times to avoid canceling the reservation. The market’s law of high demand is in full force here as well, with sunbeds on the beaches selling out quickly, especially on weekends. Entrepreneurs, realizing this trend, made sure to secure beach concession contracts, with the state collecting significant sums. Prices on some beaches are ten times higher than in previous years, which shows the change in demand and value of beachfront areas.

With these developments, it becomes clear that summer fun in Greece is changing its facewith new rules and increased requirements, both in terms of prices and clothing, and bathing for a family in one of the organized beaches is now becoming a difficult task.
