Domestic. Berry entrepreneur Johan Breitholtz and his Thai female companion are sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for human exploitation and a seven-year business ban after deceiving nine berry pickers from Thailand that they would receive regular Swedish wages – which was not true.
When the berry pickers arrived in Sweden, only one payment awaited per liter of berries picked, and they were forced to work long hours to even afford to pay the debts for the trip to Sweden.
After two months of work, they received between 18 and 28 percent of the contractual salary they were promised, writes the blogger Pettersson’s who also looked up a picture of Johan Breitholtz.
The entrepreneurs earned SEK 4,441,717 from violating the agreement and that profit is now forfeited by the state.
The nine duped berry pickers also receive damages for infringement of SEK 80,000 and compensation for non-payment of wages of between SEK 106,000 and SEK 123,000.
The chairman of the Lycksele District Court disagreed and wanted to acquit the two carrier companies, due to a lack of evidence.
