because he lost his mind

The Fiorentina coach received a red card in the hottest phase of Fiorentina-Milan, a nervous outburst towards the fourth official cost him dearly. The reason? “I said something to Kouame and they kicked me out.”

A déjà vu. Raffaele Palladino come Massimiliano Allegri. In the finale of FiorentinaMilana match already marked by 3 missed penalties, anything happens. Also that at a certain point the Viola coach, in the hottest phase of the match, reacts very badly to a decision by the match director, Pairetto. A free kick awarded to the Rossoneri, and hotly contested by the Tuscans, is the episode that literally makes the coach lose his temper. He is following those excited phases, with his team leading 2-1, standing in front of the bench and sees something that he considers unfair: a foul that he says does not exist called against Kean, in full possession of the ball.

A suspicious contact, in his opinion, misjudged by the whistle, touches a raw nerve in him: Palladino no longer holds back, he waves, screams, wriggles, takes off his jacket and throws it on the ground but his outburst doesn’t end there. He walks towards the fourth man, Rapuano, and raises the “tone of the conversation” with the assistant. What happens shortly after is the natural consequence of that outburst: word of mouth between match officials leads to the coach’s expulsion. He receives the red card and leaves, following the remainder of the match from the stands, where he continues to give instructions to his team until, at the final whistle, the euphoria of the victory takes over the toxic adrenaline of those moments.

During the press conference the Fiorentina coach explained what happened on the pitch. He returned to the topic by clarifying why he received the red card: “I was sent off because I complained… The reason? In my opinion there was a foul on Kean that was given away”. But this was not the only reason for the disciplinary measure which, when the championship resumed after the break (20 October, against Lecce), would cost him disqualification and absence from the bench. “But then I said something to Kouame and that’s why they kicked me out – he added -. It’s a shame because I wanted to enjoy the victory on the pitch.”

Palladino also returned to the issue of penalty kicks (three were awarded, of which two were missed by Milan) on which there was the miraculous intervention of De Gea. The hook is offered by the reflection made by Fonseca of Milan according to which “with all these penalties” it is not football.“I had the opportunity to speak to him and we shared our thoughts. Penalties are certainly awarded too easily and football is also about physical contact.”
