Belgian cycles his e-bike from 99,999 to 0 kilometers on the odometer

How many kilometers have you covered in total on your e-bike? Probably not as much as Eddy Goysens. This 71-year-old Belgian from Grobbendonk has already traveled more than 100,000 kilometers on his electric bicycle.

The only problem? You can’t tell from the bike. By this we do not mean the condition of the two-wheeler in terms of maintenance, but the odometer. The Norta M600’s screen only has room for 5 digits, meaning Eddy went from 99,999 kilometers to 0.

Norta M600

Norta is a Belgian brand that was founded in 1916. It was founded by Modest Van Hemelen, who took over his father’s farrier’s shop and then started a ‘velo factory’ due to the popularity of the bicycle. That bicycle workshop grew into a wholesaler of bicycle parts, and then became a bicycle factory in 1958. In 2010, this resulted in the first electric Norta.

Eddy chose that bicycle when he retired. “An electric bicycle makes cycling easier and more pleasant,” he says. Eddy cycled an average of 10,000 kilometers per year, because he has had his Norta M600 for ten years now. This means that he cycled 27 kilometers a day: if he missed a day, it was already 54 kilometers the next day. He now also has the habit of taking an annual bicycle trip to the sea or the Netherlands, which means his bicycle covers a few more kilometers. Enjoy cycling in Limburg or the Kempen, for example.

ZGAN

The cycling enthusiast says otherwise Newspaper that after reaching this milestone he wants to go for a new bicycle. Probably another Norta. He can easily sell his old two-wheeler on the Belgian Marketplace: with so few kilometers on the odometer, he will certainly get a nice amount for it.
