The ceremonial opening was attended by the Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujović, the City Secretary for Environmental Protection Ivana Vilotijević, as well as representatives of the company “Beo chista energija”.

The plan envisages that approximately 340,000 tons of municipal waste will be processed annually in this facility, which will provide electricity for five percent of households in Belgrade, as well as thermal energy for heating ten percent of Belgrade householdsaccording to Beoinfo.

In this way, more than half of the waste generated in the city will be thermally processed, and the produced “green” energy will be used for the energy needs of citizens.

As part of the TE-TO Vinča project, in addition to the waste energy processing plant, a new sanitary landfill, a leachate treatment plant and a facility for the reuse of construction waste and demolition waste were built.

These infrastructural elements together make sustainable system for municipal waste management and contribute to significant reduction of pollution and conservation of natural resources.
