On the afternoon of the 10th, the 12th Civil Affairs Division of the Seoul Western District Court held the first trial of a defamation lawsuit over allegations of plagiarism filed by Belif Lab and Source Music, raves under Hive, against Min Hee-jin, former CEO of Adore. Former CEO Min did not attend the trial in person, but legal representatives of Belif Lab, Source Music, and former CEO Min attended.
On this day, Belif Lab’s legal representative emphasized that former CEO Min’s past statement that Aylet plagiarized New Genes was false and said, “The core of the illegal acts committed by the defendant (former CEO Min Hee-jin) against Aylet, who had just debuted, was false.” He said, “New Jeans has a fairly large fandom, and if the defendant attacked Aylet in this way, he would have been aware of the impact it would have on the defendant, who has a long career.”
He continued, “Regardless of whether it is true or not, we would like to tell you that we have hurt young girls through false statements and pointing fingers, and we believe that this must be corrected.”
Also, regarding the similarity of choreography, he said, “If we take Taekwondo as an example, there is something called Poomsae. Poomsae is something that is basically determined, and the person performing the movement evaluates where to apply force and how much tension to apply. He argued, “Girl group choreography inevitably involves repetition of similar movements, and it is natural in the industry for something unique to be added.”
Previously, former CEO Min had consistently claimed that Belif Lab’s group Eyelet had plagiarized New Jeans’ entire concept, including its concept. However, Belif Lab pointed out that July 21, 2023 was the time when Eyelet’s branding strategy and concept were finalized, and August 28, 2023, when Adore employees delivered the plan to Belif Lab, and said, “At the time, Eyelet’s “I can’t influence the concept,” he countered.
Afterwards, Belif Lab filed a lawsuit against former CEO Min for 2 billion won in damages, and former CEO Min counter-sued Belif Lab CEO Kim Tae-ho and working staff on charges of defamation, and also claimed 5 billion won in damages from Belif Lab. filed a lawsuit.
