One of the richest people in the world, the Frenchman Bernard Arnault, buys the football club FC Paris, which currently leads the second French league. The co-owner of the LVMH group, which is dedicated to the sale of luxury goods, will acquire a majority stake from the current owner, Pierre Ferracci. The minority stake will be bought by Red Bull, which recently hired former Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp for its football activities. The Arnault family announced the transaction today.
She did not state the amount for which FC Paris will be acquired. According to his statement, he intends to provide the club with “the necessary resources and to place its men’s and women’s team permanently among the French elite to win the hearts of Parisians”.
Seventy-five-year-old Arnault last year became the first European to dominate the list of the world’s richest people. In April, Forbes magazine estimated the value of his assets at 233 billion dollars (then 5.5 trillion crowns). His entry into FC Paris can change the situation in French football, which has been dominated by Paris St. Germain with the help of generous Qatari owners. FC Paris has spent only three seasons in the top competition, the last time he played in it was in 1978/79.
