Biathlon coach celebrates dream wedding

Wedding bells rang once again in the biathlon circus. Johannes Lukas, German coach of the Swedish ski hunter team, used the summer break to marry his wife Maria.

It is not uncommon for winter sports enthusiasts to use the snow-free period for private matters. This is also the case with Johannes Lukas. According to “Nordic Mag”, the biathlon coach and his wife Maria celebrated a dream wedding last week in Prien am Chiemsee in Bavaria.

According to the report, the celebrations took place in the Bavarian tradition. Lukas was born in Munich and little is known about his wife.

At the beginning of July, Norwegian superstar Tarjei Bö and his wife Gita Simonsen tied the knot. The ceremony and the subsequent celebration took place in Stryn, the hometown of the Bö brothers.

Norwegian Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold also got married this summer.

“Difficult year” for biathlon nation Sweden

Johannes Lukas has been head coach of the Swedish biathlon team since May 2019. The 31-year-old followed in the footsteps of Wolfgang Pichler.

At the beginning of 2024, Lukas was named Coach of the Year in Sweden. “It is a great honor for me to receive this award. For me as a young coach, this is a huge thing,” he explained at the time.

Last season, however, did not go according to plan.

Elvira Öberg and Sebastian Samuelsson recorded the only two individual victories for Sweden in the World Cup. The victory of the men’s relay at the Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto, however, was a major coup for Lukas’ team. In the end, they were able to leave arch-rival and top favorite Norway behind.

“It was a pretty difficult year, the expectations of us were very high after the success of the previous winter,” Lukas recently summed up at “fondo italia”.
