American support to Ukraine created the risk of a nuclear confrontation with Russia, but that danger has been avoided, US President Joseph Biden said in his final speech dedicated to foreign policy.
– I had two tasks: to unite the world in defense of Ukraine and avoid a war between two nuclear powers. We fought both. Today, Ukraine remains a free and independent country with the potential for a bright future, and we have laid the foundations for the next administration so that it can protect that potential – said Biden.
He added that the US and its allies cannot afford to give up their support for Ukraine and that they should continue providing aid to that country.
– More needs to be done. We can’t back down. We have united 50 countries to support Ukraine, not only in Europe, but for the first time in Asia as well. Those countries know that the events in Ukraine are important for them too – said Biden, speaking at the State Department.
