US President Joe Biden, who is leaving office in January, made an important decision today. Ukraine will get what it has been asking for for a long time and which the Biden administration has so far ignored.
Biden decided to authorize Ukraine to use American weapons for attacks deep in Russian territory. As reported by the Reuters news agency, this was confirmed by three sources familiar with the matter. The White House has yet to comment on the allegations. It is otherwise a significant shift in American policy in the area of the war in Ukraine.
According to Reuters, the sources also stated that Ukraine is expected to carry out the first attacks with American long-range missiles in the next few days, where the targets will be on Russian territory.
It is known that the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky he has been asking for this permission for a long time. In the Kremlin, on the other hand, they constantly warned that the USA should never do this, because such a decision would be followed by consequences. Russian President Vladimir Putin among other things, he said that if the Ukrainian army used NATO weapons to target targets in Russia, it would mean that NATO had entered the war. So far, the Ukrainians have been able to attack targets in Russia with Western weapons, but only in certain regions along the border where Russian forces were stationed, for example participating in the offensive on Kharkiv.
