Biden plans to ban new oil and gas extraction in the Atlantic and Pacific

American President Joseph Biden plans to ban new oil and gas extraction on an area of ​​250 million hectares in parts of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans as well as the western part of the Gulf of Mexico, Bloomberg reported today.

The ban should be announced on Monday, and it excludes the sale of rights to exploit oil and gas in those areas, which cover about 14 percent of the total US production of these energy sources, the agency said, citing unnamed well-informed sources.

With this ban, Biden would leave his contribution to the fight against climate change, the goal of which is to decarbonize the American economy by 2050, that is, to put fossil fuels out of use.
