(Washington = Newsis) Correspondent Lee Yoon-hee = U.S. President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 on the 17th (local time).
This is not the first time that President Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, and his symptoms are reportedly mild. However, concerns are likely to persist due to his advanced age.
The White House released a statement today in the name of spokeswoman Curryn Janpier, saying, “President Biden tested positive for COVID-19 after completing his first event in Las Vegas this morning.”
President Biden was scheduled to speak at the annual conference of UnidosUS, a Latino American organization, in Las Vegas, Nevada, later in the day.
However, Janet Murgua, president of UnidosUS, told attendees before the event that she had just received a phone call informing her that President Biden had tested positive for the coronavirus, CNN reported.
The White House also released a statement announcing the positive test results for coronavirus.
“President Biden has been vaccinated and has also had a booster shot,” said spokeswoman Jean Pierre, adding that he is experiencing “mild symptoms.”
According to a note from his physician released by the White House, President Biden showed respiratory symptoms including a runny nose and cough this afternoon.
He was fine during his first Las Vegas event that morning, but his condition continued to be poor, so he was tested for COVID-19.
The attending physician determined that the symptoms were still mild and that breathing, body temperature, and oxygen saturation were normal.
President Biden has received the COVID-19 treatment Paxrobid and is self-isolating at his vacation home in Rehoboth, Delaware.
“He will continue to perform all his duties fully during the quarantine period,” a Zanpier spokesperson said.
This is not the first time that President Biden has tested positive for COVID-19. He was diagnosed with the Omicron subvariant BA.5 on July 21, 2022, and recovered.
