Big return home day on Thursday causes queues and heavy traffic on the roads

Many are traveling home on Thursday from Christmas visits and lunches, and therefore heavy traffic and queues are expected in several places.

That’s what Lasse Andersen, who is on duty at the Road Directorate, says.

– We expect to see Christmas traffic pressure on the roads, and it is between 11am and 3pm that there will be the greatest pressure.

– It is mainly on the Funen motorway E20 and then across the West motorway, i.e. from the Kolding area towards Copenhagen, that we expect the most road users, he says.

Slower driving is also expected on the E45 Østjyske Motorvej, where extensive construction work is underway, stretching in both directions between Vejle and Randers.

This results in a speed reduction to 80 kilometers per hour and narrower lanes in several places.

Lasse Andersen recommends driving either on Thursday morning or later in the evening if you want to avoid the worst traffic.

He also encourages people to prepare for the fact that the drive may be a little longer.

– Have some provisions in the car, something light to eat and drink and maybe a blanket if you are unfortunate enough to hit a queue and it takes longer to get there, he says.

On Thursday, there will be dense fog in large parts of the country, and it is important to drive according to the conditions, says Lasse Andersen.

– You just have to be aware that you have the right lights on. Many cars have automatic headlights that only turn on when it’s dark, which is super smart, just not when visibility is poor.

– So even if it’s bright, you just have to be aware that you have the rear lights on too, so you can see each other, he says.

On the Road Directorate’s website, Trafikinfo.dk, the current traffic situation can be followed. Here you can, among other things, keep an eye on where there is heavy traffic and where accidents have occurred.

On Friday, the Road Directorate does not expect major challenges on the roads, and in the Christmas traffic forecast, the day is set to green.
