Bijenkorf allows customers to pay with their smartphone

Adyen and de Bijenkorf are launching Tap to Pay to help customers pay faster and easier, without traditional cash registers or PIN machines. In the run-up to the festive season, the Bijenkorf in Amsterdam opens exclusive pop-ups of luxury brands, including Chanel, with special customer experiences as a starting point.

With Tap to Pay on Android, the payment moment becomes more personal. Customers who want to purchase a product can do so directly from an employee of the pop-up with the mobile device, without having to go to a separate cash register or department. This way, customers can pay quickly and easily anywhere in the store. This enriches the in-store experience and eases congestion during peak hours, as customers can pay anywhere in the store without waiting at checkouts.

For the time being, only Tap to Pay on Android has been chosen. It is not clear whether iPhone users can also pay in this way.
