DANCED ON THE STAGE: Members of KUD “Crnilović”

A humanitarian evening of spiritual and traditional music called “Concert from the Block” was held in the hall of the Cultural Center in Vlasotinac. The musical evening was organized by the humanitarian organization Serbs for Serbs, in cooperation with the mentioned cultural institution from Vlasotinc. Nikola Mitrović, a member of the humanitarian organization Serbs for Serbs from the town on the Vlasina river, says that they want to help people in a difficult financial situation.

– Our organization primarily deals with helping families with several children, who are in poor financial condition, both in Serbia and in the Balkans. We have a lot of support in the country, the region and the diaspora. I was first attracted to join the organization by my friends who are already working, and certainly by the difficult financial and social conditions of the families who need our help. So in about ten days we need to complete the action for one family in Stajkovac, a village between Vlasoticin and Leskovac, which has seven children, and then we also plan to help a family in Crna Trava, which has four children. We organize fundraising in various ways, so let’s say this is the fifth event we organize in Vlasotinac. In addition to organizing humanitarian actions, we also promote our city at the same time, because so far members of the organization from many other cities in Serbia have attended our actions. The work of our organization is very transparent, that certainly attracted me as well as my friends to get involved and help those who need help the most – said Mitrović.

Before the start of the concert, many attendees had the opportunity to see a short film recording of children who live in very bad conditions and who need help.

Church choir

The “Concert from the Block” was opened by the music band Slavopoj from Prokuplje, which consists of members of the “Sveti Prokopija” church choir. They introduced themselves by performing the songs “Svecarice Bogorodice” and “Vezak je vezla Deva Marija”. Members of the KUD “Crnilović” and the first and school team of this folklore group introduced themselves to the audience with a mix of dances from Šumadija, Ponišavlja and central Serbia. The singing group Kica performed the song “Dense mist fell on me”.

A noble mission

The organization Serbs for Serbs was created at the end of 2005, primarily as an idea of the scattered Serbian people to gather around noble goals, more precisely, around projects to help socially vulnerable Serbian families throughout the Balkans. The backbone of the organization is made up of young and energetic people, gathered by a common vision of helping those who are blessed with numerous offspring, aware that a little help means a lot to anyone who does not live in material abundance.

With the recognizable slogan “Children are our future”, the organization has, since 2005, with the help of a large number of donors from all over the world, collected 16 million euros in donations with which it has directly helped more than 3,300 families with more than 16,000 children throughout the Balkans. In addition to direct material assistance to families, on several occasions assistance was provided to soup kitchens, maternity hospitals, hospitals, primary and secondary schools, universities and other institutions that take care of children’s health and education on a daily basis.
