Biometrics in the metro: a new payment method is being introduced in the St. Petersburg subway

The first devices have already been installed at the Gostiny Dvor station.

Petersburg residents will be able to pay for their metro travel using biometric data. The new method is being tested at the Gostiny Dvor metro station, reports the Podzemnik Telegram channel.

It is clarified that a device for reading biometric data was installed in the lobby of the station at one of the turnstiles. You can provide information through “State Services”. Thus, biometric data for payment will be obtained from the all-Russian Unified Biometric System. Bank cards or tokens will no longer be needed.

It is planned that testing of the new system will begin in the next few days – this coming weekend or next week, the channel writes. 50 people will take part in the testing, including employees of the subway and VTB Bank.

Previously, Russians were allowed to check into hotels using biometrics.
