A new outbreak of bird flu has been confirmed in the poultry farm of the Klatovský fishery in Nalžovské Hory in the Klatovsk region. It will be necessary to spend on 18,000 domestic and wild ducks, pheasants and grouse. Petr Majer, spokesman for the State Veterinary Administration (SVS), told ČTK today. The same company had to dispose of approximately 27,000 poultry at the duck farm in Mysliv, also in Klatovsk, at the beginning of October due to bird flu. According to information from ČTK, the culling of poultry will begin on Tuesday next week.
According to Majer, there are 12,000 fattening ducks, 2,600 wild ducks, 2,900 grouse and 780 pheasants at the farm in Nalžovské Hory.
On November 14, the breeder reported to the regional veterinary administration (KVS) the sudden increased death of approximately 250 Peking ducks in the feedlot, which showed symptoms typical of bird flu. Examination of the samples at the State Veterinary Institute confirmed that the dead animals had bird flu of the H5N1 subtype, which veterinarians consider to be potentially risky for humans as well. “The remaining pieces in the farm will be euthanized next week. A three-kilometer protective zone and a ten-kilometer surveillance zone will be defined around the outbreak today,” said the spokesman.
According to Majer, extraordinary veterinary measures will be announced in the protection and surveillance zone, which, among other things, will limit the movement of poultry, inventories of poultry farms will be made there, and the organization of mass events such as stock exchanges or bird exhibitions will be prohibited.
According to SVS, this is the ninth outbreak of bird flu in commercial breeding this year. “Furthermore, in the course of the year so far in the Czech Republic, a total of 31 outbreaks of bird flu have been confirmed in non-commercial small-scale poultry farms,” he added.
