Black Myth: Wukong is a huge hit and currently probably the most successful game of the year. This action RPG set in historical China, in which you find yourself in the shoes of the famous Monkey King, has been loved by players and has already sold over 20 million copies. One of the fans transformed it into a 2D action game with pixel art graphics.

Wukong in a 2D world

Black Myth: Wukong is of course a fully 3D game using a third-person perspective, which is typical of the genre. But how about remaking it in the form of a 2D action game, i.e. a genre that still exists, but has long passed its peak? That’s probably what one of the fans of the game said to himself, and he did as he said.

A fan of the game with a nickname Brother Volcano created a great looking 2D demo with pixel art graphics in which you control the main character from a traditional side view. The processing is really very simple, maybe even austere, and it is a beautiful counterpoint to the original game, which boasts absolutely excellent graphics and a dense atmosphere.

A real whiff of nostalgia

The 2D version resembles the type of fighting games in which you walked with the hero from left to right and eliminated everything that stood in his way. They were at their peak in the eighties and nineties of the last century, and typical representatives of this genre are, for example, Double Dragon or the very popular and widespread act Golden Axe.

There is currently only one chapter available in the game for now, but a community is gradually forming around it and it is likely that its development will continue. It’s clear that this conversion won’t offer such an elaborate experience, but the level of nostalgia is huge and it’s no wonder that it caught the attention of fans.
