BLIK in Revolut this year! It will be a revolution on a global scale

Rzeczpospolita reported today that it has obtained credible information that Revolut customers will benefit from the BLIK mobile payment system this year.

At the beginning of August I wrote to you about PSP, the mobile payment operator BLIK, establishing strategic cooperation with Vodeno and Aion Bank – I described it as entering European salons through the back door. A similar cooperation with Revolut, which is reported by today’s Republic would make BLIK enter the world salons, and not through the back door.

Revolut reported in its July 2023 report that last year its global customer base (38 countries in total, with countries such as Brazil and New Zealand recently joining) grew by 12 million, reaching 38 million people, and in June 2024 it reached 45 million customers. 50 million by the end of 2024 is therefore a very realistic number.

Nik StoroĊ„ski, CEO at Revolut:

This is the year we have made the most progress in our mission to deliver the best products and usability to our customers, at an attractive price, everywhere. Every day, Revolut’s innovative products deliver value to new groups of customers in new countries. We are consistently working towards obtaining a banking license in the UK and bringing the app to new markets.

How does it look in Poland? At the end of 2023, Revolut served over 3.1 million customers – over 1 million more than in 2022, which is an increase of 47%, and today it is already over 3.5 million customers – in the last 6 months, almost 500,000 new customers opened an account with Revolut in Poland.

And it is precisely for Polish Revolut customers that BLIK payments are to be made available this year at the start, and in the longer term to customers all over the world. Rzeczpospolita’s source states that talks have been ongoing for a long time, but they have intensified this year:

Revolut and PSP have been talking about cooperation for a few years now, but recently a lot has started happening on this topic. It is about the integration of both systems. Probably in the coming months, at the latest by the end of the year, BLIK should be made available to Revolut customers.

As of today, 17 million active customers of Polish banks use BLIK, which means that after Revolut joined the system, their base would immediately increase to 20 million – this is the annual level of growth in the number of BLIK customers.

PSP’s ambitions in terms of international expansion are undeniable; at the moment, it is actively pursuing such activities mainly in Eastern European countries, but the aforementioned partnership between Vodeno and Aion Bank shows that the plans are much more far-reaching.

Dariusz Mazurkiewicz, President of the Management Board of Polish Payment Standard, operator of the BLIK system:

Expanding the portfolio of our system participants in the embedded finance model opens up new growth opportunities for us not only in Poland but also globally. I am convinced that BLIK’s partnership with recognized players such as Vodeno and Aion Bank will significantly support the development of mobile payments in Europe. We will soon see the first effects of our cooperation, and thus the first implementations.

According to Rzeczpospolita, in the first stage of BLIK implementation in Revolut, tests are planned among the fintech’s employees, then there will be tests among friends & family, and finally with the participation of a selected group of customers.

At this time, both BLIK and Revolut have declined to comment on the information obtained by Rzeczpospolita.
