US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said today that US President Joseph Biden “is not ruling out the possibility” of allowing Ukraine to fire missiles deep into Russian territory.
In an interview with Sky News, Blinken said that Iran has provided Moscow with short-range missiles and that “Russian President Vladimir Putin will most likely use them in the next few weeks when attacking Ukraine.”
Asked if Washington would approve such a move, if the conflict flares up, Blinken replied that the US has done everything to ensure that Ukraine gets “what it needs to be effective in repelling Russian aggression” from February 2022.
However, he added that Washington must also consider other factors, such as whether Ukrainian forces can use and maintain “sophisticated systems” provided by Western allies.
– All that must be taken into account. But what I can say is that we have adjusted every step of the way during the war and will continue to do so, which means we are not ruling anything out at this point. We never even rejected. But when we make a decision, we want it to be done in the right way, to help Ukrainians achieve the progress they want – said Blinken.
