Bluesky and Threads Boom: Stephen King and 1 million users per day

At the end of the third quarter, Threads already had 275 million users – in the summer it had jumped from 175 to 200 million and the 150 million mark was only reached in April.

Threads is likely to exceed the 300 million user mark before the end of the year and may also overtake X in terms of active users in the near future. X no longer shares official figures in reports, but has spoken of 540 and sometimes even 600 million active users in 2024. However, the number of actually active accounts could be lower.

Threads also offers many new users more and more features to allow them to express themselves creatively. The first users can now, for example resort to drafts. The company also recently introduced 20 images or videos as an option in Carousel, a longer turnaround time for submitted posts, dedicated mobile insights and best practices to convince creators and brands. Even a much-anticipated post scheduling feature is in the works.

In addition, Threads separates itself more clearly from Instagram. The addition that Threads is an Instagram app can no longer be seen in the app stores. And Adam Mosseri announced that the platform has suspended the link to Instagram via Graph Import as a test. From now on, users will no longer be invited to follow all accounts that they also follow on Instagram. While Threads is becoming more independent, the integration of ads on the platform is also approaching. There are no ads planned on Bluesky yet. But that could also change as the number of users grows.
