Bluesky: The best alternative to Twitter and X?

Bluesky is establishing itself as a serious alternative to Elon Musk’s X and Meta’s Threads. With over 20 million users and a record new registration rate, the platform attracts social media enthusiasts.

After Twitter went out, numerous platforms emerged that are trying to position themselves as the new, most powerful short message service. However, it currently looks like neither Elon Musk with X nor Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri with Threads can meet this requirement. Instead, many insiders and experts look at it Bluesky as the best Twitter alternative. The platform, co-developed by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, is gaining popularity, particularly due to its user-friendly interface and innovative features.

We at OnlineMarketing.de recently reported that Bluesky had recorded over a million new users in just one day for the first time. In addition, Bluesky CEO Jay Graber recently saidthat the number of users has increased to over 20 million and over a million users are being added every day. As a result, the platform has established itself as a serious competitor to Elon Musk’s social media service X. The similarity between X and Bluesky is now limited to the fact that Jack Dorsey, the original founder of Twitter, was also involved in the development of Bluesky. The structure of the platform is also partly reminiscent of the original Twitter. But Bluesky wants to consciously distance itself from the current orientation of X.

Bluesky’s success puts threads under pressure

Bluesky’s growth also appears to be putting pressure on Threads, the Twitter alternative developed by Meta. This is clear, for example, in a Threads post by social media expert Matt Navarra.

Over the past few weeks, Threads has rolled out a variety of new updates, including improvements to search functionality and video usage. Insiders suspect that Threads is trying to use targeted improvements to win back users who have turned away from the platform or are wavering between alternatives.

Instagram and Threads CEO Adam Mosseri recently commented on reports of Bluesky’s success in a public statement. He emphasized that the growth of competition is not a cause for concern, but rather an opportunity to further develop Threads and focus on the needs of users.

Although Bluesky is currently viewed by many as a favorite Twitter alternative due to its positive user experience, the platform remains relatively small compared to Threads and X. Whether social media users will show long-term interest in this relatively young platform remains to be seen – especially since Meta seems determined to grow Threads into a social platform with a billion users.
