Is the BMW 5 Series G60 a good choice? You can drive sporty in the BMW 5 Series without sacrificing comfort. Despite its large size, the car has dynamic driving behavior. The last and penultimate generations of the 5 series are clearly much more focused on comfort than the older models. The eighth generation 5 Series is the first of its series to be longer than 5 meters. It has also grown in height and width compared to its predecessor. You will of course notice that large size when you get into the car. It is spacious on the inside, so you can comfortably travel with several people. In any case, this car is a pleasant place to be: with the wide range of option packages you can make the inside as luxurious as you want. You also have different choices when it comes to engines. You can choose a mild hybrid petrol engine, but also a plug-in hybrid. Unlike many other car brands, these BMWs are even supplied with (mild-hybrid) diesel engines. For a fully electric 5-series you should look at the BMW i5. Of course, this BMW 5-series is equipped with many modern gadgets. It is equipped with various safety systems such as lane keeping assistant, automatic emergency braking and the option to drive semi-autonomously. This increases the ease of driving and is of course good for safety on the road. The biggest drawback to the BMW 5 Series is the cost. Not only is it expensive to purchase, but maintenance is also expensive. In addition, it is a heavy car, which means the fixed costs are higher. These higher costs are of course associated with a car from the premium segment. Performance and comfort The BMW 5-series G60/G61 comes with different engines. First of all, you can choose between a mild-hybrid diesel or petrol engine. You also have the option to opt for a plug-in hybrid 5-series. Diesel engines are available in two variants: the 197 hp 520d and the 303 hp 540d. Both have a mild-hybrid powertrain, where the diesel engine is lightly supported by an electric motor. The petrol engines of this 5 Series are also mild hybrids. There is less choice: this car is currently only supplied with the 208 hp 520i. Finally, you can opt for a plug-in hybrid BMW 5-series. The lightest engine is the 299 hp 530e, and the strongest variant is the 728 hp M5. There is one more step in between: the 489 hp 550e. The BMW G60/G61 is very comfortable, both in the chassis and in the interior. Those who would rather enjoy the dynamic character of this 5-series can opt for the M sports package. Space and practicality With a length of over 5 meters, this generation 5 series is the largest in the series. You also notice this when you are in the car, especially in the back seat. As adults you can sit comfortably here. You also have the necessary space in the trunk. The G60 sedan has a trunk capacity of 520 liters. That of the G61 touring is 50 liters larger. Of course, this also has the advantage that you can fold down the rear seat if you have no passengers in the back. Then the luggage space increases to 1,700 liters. Although the extra space inside is of course practical, the increased outside dimensions can cause some problems. For example, a driver indicates in a review that many parking spaces are too small in both length and width.
