BMW and other manufacturers are lining up for a new generation of electric motors

The German start-up DeepDrive has collected another 30 million euros to continue its work on the development of compact and efficient electric motors. It is a start-up with more than ten years of work behind it, and which has recently managed to arouse the interest of most of the world’s well-known manufacturers.

His biggest success lies in the prototype engine he showed in 2021, which is so compact that it fits in the wheels. The new mode of operation and patented technology promise greater energy efficiency for electric cars in the near future. It is estimated that the first vehicles integrating DeepDrive’s engines could arrive in 2027, and in 2028 they will begin to appear en masse on the market. The technology of this German company ensures that its electric motors require 80% less iron, save 50% of space compared to traditional blocks, and that in turn the cost of production is 30% lower, he states.

To all of the above, we must add that all these advantages directly translate into a lower weight of the set, as well as the possibility of improving the range by 20%, or even maintaining the current figures by using a smaller battery pack. The new engine system makes it possible to achieve an output between 300 and 470 HP, with the possibility of starting the vehicle with all-wheel drive, front or rear, and ensuring an optimal maximum torque of up to 540 Nm.

It is a question of engines with a double rotor, where the noise is reduced, and a very simple cooling system is resorted to. The investor reached for silicon carbide and a construction patent in which it is possible to reduce energy losses to a minimum, if we compare that technology with the previous achievements of the competition. Therefore, it is not surprising that BMW, i-Ventures, Continental, among other investors, have shown interest
