BMW announces news in its model range. Series 1 and Series 5 get new engines

BMW has announced updates to its model range. BMW 1 Series and 5 Series get new versions.

The German manufacturer has announced news for three models in its range: the 1 Series, the 5 Series and the X5 SUV. The first two now benefit from new versions, while the PHEV versions of certain models receive higher charging powers.

The most affordable model in the BMW range – the 1 Series – gets two new versions. It is a basic variant, the 116, which uses the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, which develops 122 HP and 230 Nm. A seven-speed automatic transmission is standard on the 116.

The second new version is the 123 xDrive, which uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine complemented by an all-wheel drive system. The 123 xDrive version develops 218 hp. And, because it is a mild-hybrid engine, it is accompanied by an electric motor. The BMW 123 xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.

In addition, the BMW M135 xDrive can now be equipped with the optional M Technology package. It includes additional reinforcements, lightweight elements, stiffer suspension and black aesthetics.

The BMW 5 Series gets three new versions, including an electric one

The high-class model from the Germans’ portfolio now receives three new versions. The first of them is the 520i, which uses a four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 208 hp and 330 Nm. This version can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds.

Next is the 550e xDrive, a plug-in hybrid based on a six-cylinder in-line gasoline engine, assisted by an electric motor. This hybrid system develops 489 hp and 450 Nm. The BMW 550e PHEV can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.

The third version is intended for the station wagon. The BMW i5 Touring gets a new variant, called the i5 xDrive 40. It uses two electric motors, which produce a combined power of 394 hp and 590 Nm. Thanks to these figures, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. The entire system is powered by an 81.2 kWh battery.

Last but not least, BMW announces that all PHEV versions of the 5 Series – including the M5 – as well as the X5 SUV receive higher charging powers. The AC charging capacity of these models increases from 7.4 kWh to 11 kWh.

The new versions announced by the manufacturer will be available to order from October this year.
