Of the 751 employees, representatives of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union, 64% rejected the agreement. Boeing management had proposed a 35% increase in wages over a period of four years.

The 33,000 union members have been on strike for almost six weeks. “The strike continues,” the workers’ representatives said.

Kelly Ortberg, Boeing’s CEO, said Wednesday that ratifying a new labor contract and ending the strike is essential to stabilizing the company. One analyst estimated the strike was costing Boeing $50 million a day.

Boeing employee earnings have risen 4% in each of the last eight years, while inflation has exploded.
