Minister Bolat emphasized that among the main duties of the Ministry is to ensure that Turkey’s foreign trade, including exports and imports, is carried out effectively, quickly and in accordance with the laws and regulations through the management and employees of the General Directorate of Customs and the General Directorate of Customs Enforcement affiliated to the Ministry of Trade.
In this context, emphasizing that the General Directorate of Customs and the General Directorate of Customs Protection continue their work through 156 customs directorates, 29 land customs gates, 14 air customs gates, 48 sea customs gates and 5 railway customs gates in the country, Bolat said, “In our country, foreign trade activities covering a total of 620 billion dollars of export and import are carried out through our customs. In this context, a total of 5.4 million export declarations and 3.5 million import declarations are checked and registered annually.”
Bolat also pointed out that 11.8 million vehicles and 182.5 million passengers enter and exit customs annually, and that customs procedures for 8 million 300 thousand containers are also carried out here.

Bolat emphasized that 26 percent of Turkey’s total tax revenues are collected in cash from customs and immediately transferred to the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, and noted the following:
“Our teams from the General Directorate of Customs Protection continue their work intensively to prevent illegal crossings at our customs, which carry out such important and intensive operations. For example, in the 13.5-month period from June 1, 2023 to the present, a total of 7,281 illegal goods have been seized. 17 tons of these were drug seizures, and the total value of the seized drugs is equivalent to 12 billion liras. During the same period, in 13.5 months, a total of 35.5 billion liras worth of illegal goods were prevented in 7,281 cases. This figure corresponds to a 117 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
We will continue our duty to effectively carry out our country’s increasing foreign trade. We will continue our activities to seize illegal, harmful, anti-competitive and poisonous drugs, together with our colleagues working in the Customs Protection and Customs General Directorates, with the same determination as we have done so far.”
