The President of the PNL, Nicolae Ciucă, declared on Tuesday, regarding other possible withdrawals from the presidential race, that it is a topic that at the moment “can be closed”, reasoning that, no matter who withdraws, it remains on the ballot.
“It is a topic that at the moment I think can be closed, because no matter who withdraws, it remains on the ballot. People have their choice and then, if there is such an approach, it cannot mean anything other than a signal for the unity of the right. We are waiting to see this availability happen in reality. Until then, we’ll see each other about our campaign”, said Ciucă, before a meeting with PNL leaders.
Regarding a discussion with Elena Lasconi, the USR candidate in the presidential elections, Nicolae Ciucă claimed that he is very open to this.
“If there is a desire to have a discussion, I am very open to having this discussion,” said Ciucă.
Ciucă was asked if the president of Bihor CJ, Ilie Bolojan, could take over the position of party president after Sunday’s elections.
“After Sunday’s elections, we will continue to campaign because the second round is coming up,” replied Ciucă.
“President Ciucă’s answer is correct,” said Bolojan, when asked if he wanted to take over the leadership of the PNL.
The president CJ Bihor was also asked if he asked Mircea Geoană to withdraw from the race for Cotroceni and instead receive the position of prime minister, in case Nicolae Ciucă becomes president.
“I explained that before making this proposal I called them, it was a matter of politeness not to find out about things on TV, and I explained to them what I said in public as well. That’s it,” said Ilie Bolojan.
“First of all, I did not have any such discussion with Mr. President Bolojan. We talked together and said several times how much I cared about this honesty of the relationship between us, and Mr. President Bolojan said, we had a public statement, it seems normal for you not to find out from television and to find out from me. It’s the only thing that happened. All the other ramblings are issues that have been launched and I saw in the press today many scenarios and hypotheses that have no relevance”, added Nicolae Ciucă.
The President of Forza Dreptei, Ludovic Orban, announced on Monday that he is withdrawing from the race for the presidential elections and will support USR candidate Elena Lasconi.
