The threats were reported Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, and authorities responded promptly to ensure the safety of the individuals concerned. The incidents included threats of violence and false reports designed to generate an armed response to targets’ homes. Leavitt stressed that these actions will not deter the administration-in-training.
Among those targeted is Elise Stefanik, the nominee for US ambassador to the UN, who said her home was the target of a bomb threat. Stefanik was on his way to New York with his family at the time of the incident, and the police promptly intervened.
Matt Gaetz, former congressman and Trump’s first choice for attorney general, was also the target of a bomb threat. Gaetz was not home at the time of the incident, but a family member was present. Gaetz previously withdrew from the nomination due to allegations of sexual misconduct, allegations he denies.
Another incident involved the home of Lee Zeldin, former US representative and Trump’s choice to head the Environmental Protection Agency. Zeldin reported a homemade bomb threat accompanied by a pro-Palestinian message. His family was not at home at the time of the incident.
Susie Wiles, Trump’s incoming chief of staff, and attorney general nominee Pam Bondi were also targeted, according to official sources, according to the same source.
The FBI confirmed that it is investigating the multiple threats and incidents of swatting and is working with law enforcement to review the situation.
Although the threats have not been deemed credible and no devices or physical hazards have been identified, authorities remain vigilant.
