MISCELLANEOUS FACTS – In search of the truth. An investigation was opened after hikers discovered bones on a path in Laragne-Monteglin, a small town in the Hautes-Alpes, Sunday December 29.
The information was first revealed by BFM YOU SAYlocal branch of the 24-hour news channel, specifying that a skull and a bone resembling a femur were found in the frozen ground. Pieces of fabric, probably from clothing, were also found by walkers.
Agence France Presse (AFP) later confirmed the discovery of the skull, but the other bone found was ultimately that of an arm. The remains will be sent to the criminal research institute of the national gendarmerie (IRCGN) for dating and DNA research. “ There have been disappearances in the area, but the lack of dating prevents us from making a link with them to this day”indicated Gap prosecutor Marion Lozac’hmeur to AFP.
No clue about the identity of the victim
At BFM DICI, a source close to the investigation indicated that it was impossible “for now” to say whether the bones belong to a man or a woman. It is also difficult to estimate how long the human remains had been there due to the ground being completely frozen.
Another source told AFP that a sweep of the area was carried out Monday afternoon by the gendarmes. She didn’t give anything.
