Bosch makes the battery of your e-bike unusable for thieves

Bosch has found a new way to ensure that the battery of your e-bike is not stolen. During the major tech fair CES, the brand will present a new system that should ensure that you can store your e-bike with peace of mind without having to walk with your battery under your arm. Not a lock with a physical key, but a digital lock.

Many e-bike batteries have a physical lock to keep them in place, but Bosch comes with a digital version. It’s called Battery Lock and uses the eBike Flow app and Kiox 300 and Kiox 500 screens. According to Bosch, it is not a virtual lock that you use instead of your physical lock. It is actually an extra on top of that physical lock. Bosch ultimately wants to ensure that no more e-bikes with a Bosch system are stolen.

Bosch against criminals

The battery is one of the more expensive e-bike parts, making it susceptible to theft. The physical lock helps, but Battery Lock must ensure that the battery is automatically locked when the e-bike is turned off. Battery Lock is a function that you activate in the eBike Flow app from Bosch. When a locked battery is placed in another e-bike, the motor support automatically switches off. This makes the e-bike unusable for the thief. This makes it unattractive to resell batteries.

Bosch writes: “These digital keys are flexibly managed with the eBike Flow app and Battery Lock can also be disabled if you want to share the battery with friends or family, for example. Battery Lock is also compatible with all batteries or battery combinations in the smart system and also works with DualBatteries and the PowerMore 250 Range Extender.”

Battery Lock

Battery Lock can be installed over-the-air on any Bosch eBike via the eBike Flow app. It will be available from the summer of 2025 within the Flow+ subscription.
